An Intro From Jess

Hey, twisty friends! I was racking my brain trying to think of an amazing first blog post... but thought it would be best to start out telling you about me. I initially learned to crochet about a zillion years ago, but at the time I preferred drawing and painting, so didn’t really get into it until I moved to Florida and started working as a call agent. I worked late nights and I gotta tell you... it could get super boring and coffee only does so much at 1am when you’re staring at 2 computer screens. A couple of co-workers crocheted to pass the time and helped refresh me on some basics and it was there my twisted world took hold and I’ve been wrapped up since. I used videos, taught myself to read patterns, diagrams, and although I ended up doing a lot of frogging in the beginning, as I’m sure plenty of you can relate, it was love/obsession/passion... whatever you choose to call it 😊 . However, I had so many facepalm moments.... you know “OMG!!! How did I not know this?????” Still do.... just the other day, Sarah asked me if I ever blocked any of my projects..... (to those of you that do, serious kudos, and my apologies for not having an inkling) ….. And for those of you that are about to pull up Google, blocking is basically when you soak your finished project in water and wool wash for about 20 minutes or so, squeeze the moisture out then pin it and dry. 

One thing I will admit, I’m easily distracted at times. Comes from constantly doing a million things at once. While I love being mom, having a full time job ( and a few part time freelance ones), online school, and all of my passions, like books, coffee, wine, and of course crocheting, it all keeps me pretty busy. Although, binge-watching my nerd shows doesn't help. I love the Arrowverse, Supernatural, Harry Potter and my Tolkien. I love walking the trails and trying new places and when Sarah came up with this idea, I was like yea! Let's have an adventure!

I’m the crafter that has an entire bin of partially started projects while having 4 that I solidly work on. A favorite I have are the amigurumi figures, especially squids and octopi. They are so adorable and I just love mixing the colors for them!!!  

Also, as a single mama, my budget is pretty tight. Eventually, I will do a post on my budget buying, but for now, I will tell you, I buy a lot of clearance colors and go from there. I’ve found a lot of amazing colors and projects, like the blanket below, with clearance colors. The ripple blanket cost me I think 12 in total, yarn wise!

So there’s me, but I want to know about your twists! What’s got you twisted today, what are your favorite sorts of projects? Sarah and I imagined this as a fun interaction for sharing all of our twisted worlds together.
